On Sunday the 24th of September, the Jacksonville Jaguars take on the Baltimore Ravens at Wembley Stadium in London. This will be the Ravens first international game, and the Jaguars fifth. If nothing else, the match will prove to be an exciting one with both NFL teams coming in with some serious weaponry. The Ravens are early four-point favourites, while the Jaguars have had a bit of a topsy-turvy season so far.
Let’s take a look at how the teams stack up:
Jaguars Ups and Downs
The Jaguars came into the NFL as one of the hottest teams in week 1. Their shocking 29-7 win over Huston while on the road caught everyone’s attention. In week 2, the team seemed to have forgotten their former brilliance and returned to being the same old Jags. They lost to the Tennessee Titans and looked to be back their former uninspiring glory. With 1 win and 1 loss, the Jaguars registered three last week but will have a much tougher time of it in week 3. For the Jags to stand any chance of winning, they will have to rely on Leo Fournette. He registered touchdowns in both games and will need to be at his best for his team to go the distance in London.
Ravens Have the Momentum
The Baltimore Ravens should, in all likelihood win this game. Despite losing Danny Woodhead for a couple of weeks, the Ravens bounced back pretty quickly, destroying the Bengals 20-0 in week 1. Last week, they brushed aside Cleveland 24-10 and have racked up 8 interceptions on the year. This is the most in the NFL. To add to this Joe Flacco is having a decent season, connecting with 66% for three touchdowns. While their offence isn’t the best, they won’t really need it much against the Jaguars. We have to remember that it was their defence that won both their games so far. They are currently second in the league with an average of 5.0 pointers per game.
While the Ravens have the momentum at the moment, it must be pointed out that they also haven’t yet played an international. While it may seem like a small issue, there is no counting for what can happen overseas. As for the Jaguars, this will be their fifth, having won the past two internationals. Last year they defeated Indianapolis Colts, 30-27 and in 2015 the downed the Buffalo Bills 34-31.
